To Live in Harmony is a zine reflecting on Japanese-English bilingual typography as a symbol of hybrid cultural identity and peaceful coexistence for Vancouver’s Japanese community. The work explores the challenges of designing across two writing systems and recognizes an imbalance in the availability of Latin-based typefaces to Japanese scripts. Presenting seven bilingual font pairings, To Live in Harmony seeks to bridge this gap; finding ways to bring two languages and cultures together more harmoniously without compromising the beauty of their respective characters.
